A Memorial Day weekend fight ended with a 7-year-old girl shot, according to the Milwaukee Fire Department. It happened Saturday afternoon near Appleton and Keefe on Milwaukee’s north side.

Yolanda Bowman says her kids were outside enjoying the weather when a fight broke out near them.

"I heard gunshots going off, but I did not know that was my child,” she said.

Bowman said her 7-year-old daughter named Precious was the unintended target.

"My kids came running to me and told me that my daughter had been shot,” she said.

Bowman ran out to find her little girl lying on the ground -- suffering from several wounds. She said the people who were fighting were already gone by the time officers arrived. The victim was taken to the hospital and extended family rushed over. Shamaine Giddion is the victim's aunt.

"She's precious, she a sweet kid, she never does anything wrong,” she said.

Giddion said Precious was struck by a shotgun buckshot, which is  an ammunition shell filled with large metal pellets that scatter outward.

"One of them went through her lung, they in her pelvis and they all up through here,” she said.

Giddion said Precious is expected to survive, but she is struggling.

"I want her to get well and I hope they find the person that did it,” she said.

Police have not given any details on a possible suspect.
