(NBC News) Americans are projected to spend more money than ever on tech-related gifts this year.
That's according to the Consumer Technology Association, which predicts a record-breaking $96.1 billion in sales.
The tech at the top of holiday wish lists: televisions, laptops and smartphones.
If you're in the market for a good phone deal, experts suggest looking beyond the manufacturer, and trying a carrier or secondary source instead. Some carriers are even offering two phones for the price of one, and Target is touting a hefty gift card promotion when you buy certain smartphones.
The CTA also predicts consumers will buy 22 million smart speakers this quarter. That's a 44 percent increase from last year. Experts say you can expect to see half-price deals for the Google Home Mini and the Amazon Echo Dot.
Smartwatches and wireless headphones are two other big sellers expected over the holiday season.
Experts say it won't hurt you to start shopping now, but the best deals begin the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
