Woman suffered fatal gunshot wound

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Nya Hammond of Milwaukee.

A 21-year-old man from Milwaukee has been arrested.

Glendale police said they are working with the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in regards to criminal charges at this time.


Glendale Police are investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead Monday morning.

Police say the woman was found in the parking lot of Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare on River Woods Parkway at about 5:30 a.m.

According to Glendale police, the victim is a 19-year-old woman from Milwaukee.

Police say the woman was shot, but it's not clear if she was wounded on the scene or dropped off near a security post in the parking lot. 

Parents dropping off their children at a daycare across the way found a portion of their parking lot had turned into a crime scene overnight.

“Very alarming this is very quiet this is a very quiet area,” said Terese Ciofani, co-owner of the Nurturing Nook.

Staff from the hospital were also concerned.

“There is quite a few cameras here, so hopefully their checking that out right now,” said Dana Thomas, who works at the hospital.  “It’s concerning for me. All the people that I work with, too. It’s pretty much all women. It’s definitely been a main topic of conversation today,”

This is Glendale's first homicide of the year -- yet its now the 22nd female murdered in Milwaukee County.
