MILWAUKEE - The heroic gesture of Matt Kallas, a transit operator for the Milwaukee County Transit System, helped bring the subject of a statewide Silver Alert home.

“I was on my way home and actually witnessed the Silver Alert on the overhead amber sign," Kallas said.

"I did not recall the plate number. However, (I) called to get verification for the plate before I dialed 911," he continued.

The Silver Alert Kallas saw was issued for missing 79-year-old Waukesha County man, Charles Wolf. Wolf was said to be driving a green Kia Soul.

Kallas said he spotted Wolf driving the car on the highway going well under 50 in a 70 mile per hour lane.

“I gained a friendship with him," Kallas said.

"Obviously he didn’t know where he was, he didn’t know what was going on. He just knew he had a destination to achieve, and I don’t think he knew what that was," he continued.

Although Kallas said Wolf may not have known where he was going, Kallas felt it was his priority to get him home safe. He said he coached Wolf off the highway and contacted police.

His heroic actions are why County Executive Chris Abele and Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel gathered with a small group Thursday to applaud his effort in helping to solve a Silver Alert.
