2 bomb threats called into Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office

Suspect wanted "justice for Steven."

MANITOWOC -- Manitowoc authorities are working with state officials to track down whoever called in two bomb threats into the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office Wednesday night.

The first call came in at 6:40 p.m.

Officials said a male caller claimed that there were bombs in the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office and that there was a vehicle located in the parking lot that was also “packed with explosives.”

The caller also made reference to “getting justice for Steven”, an apparent reference to Steven Avery.

The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office has seen a sharp increase in national attention thanks to the release of Netflix's popular docuseries "Making a Murderer," which chronicles Avery's controversial journey through the justice system.

Some city and county leaders have gone on record as being concerned about what the series has done to the area's image.

Authorities searched the area with a bomb sniffing K9 and nothing was found.

A second and similar call came in around 9:20 p.m.

Crews that searched the area found no evidence the threat was credible.

Manitowoc Police Investigators are currently working with members of the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation to determine the origin of the calls and caller(s).

Anyone with information related to the threat is asked to contact the Manitowoc Police Department. They say you can remain anonymous.
