The jury is now deliberating after both the prosecution and defense rested their cases Friday in the trial of Tremaine Jones, the man accused of killing Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) Officer Kendall Corder and injuring Officer Christopher McCray in an ambush last year.

Less than one hour after the prosecution rested its case, the defense rested without calling any witnesses.

The jury began deliberations at about 12:30 p.m. Friday.

The state's final witness was MPD Detective Michael Driscoll, who testified about a recorded phone call between Jones and his mother, Valencia Eaton.

Jones placed the call to Eaton on July 2nd, five days after he was arrested, and just one day after being formally charged.

In the recorded phone call, Jones describes being in the alley where the ambush took place, and seeing the police officers arrive with no lights on. He told Eaton he did not know the men were police officers, saying he thought they may be "just some random people from the hood."

On Thursday, a neighbor testified that he watched the shooting unfold and spoke to Tremaine Jones moments afterward.

"He had cut through some people's yards. He thought it was somebody else," the witness said.

"He thought it was dude?" Assistant District Attorney Grant Huebner asked.

"Yes, sir," the witness said.

The state introduced evidence collected hours after the shooting during a search warrant at the house where Jones was arrested. Investigators found a Nike jacket with the words "Just do it." The state says the man seen in videos taken by neighbors shooting a rifle in the street appears to be wearing the same jacket.

Fingerprint experts testified that they found Jones' fingerprint on duct tape wrapped around the rifle believed to be used in the shooting. Jones' defense attorney, Russell Jones, questioned the fingerprint expert during the trial.

"The only thing we can say is that there is a thumb print at position number 3, thats Tremaine Jones," Russell Jones said.

"Yes," the expert said.

"We cant exclude if somebody shot or touched this rifle?" Russell Jones said.

"No," the expert said.

The full-service florist handles daily deliveries, events, and weddings, while dedicating a portion of its revenue to philanthropic efforts.

"Flowers for Dreams is a full-service florist. We donate 25% of our profit to charity," Lindsay Leinenkugel said.

"And that's within daily deliveries, events, weddings, all of it qualifies for that," Lindsay said.

The business is a certified B Corp, putting it in the same category as companies like Patagonia and Bombas.

"That means that we have to show that we're doing things for either the environment, the community, things like that. So we have to prove it," Lindsay said.

Flowers for Dreams started in Chicago in 2012 and expanded to Milwaukee in 2017. The company also operates a location in Detroit. Since it started, the company has given back more than $1.7 million to local charities.

"I think we had plans to be really big and then 2020 happened and now we're kind of finding our voice within our communities, and that's kind of been powerful for us because we are able to focus a little bit more on staying local and providing things for those local charities that we want to," Lindsay said.

This quarter, the Milwaukee charity benefiting from purchases is Voces de la Frontera.

For those looking for Easter flowers, the shop hosts an Open Studio every Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Customers can bring their own vase or purchase one to build a custom design.

The florist also creates wedding bouquets and will be featured at a Forever Green Wedding Showcase this weekend.

Jet fuel prices are driving up the cost of air travel, with summer airfares already jumping. The average ticket has hit $465, and according to the flight information group OAG, that is the highest price point for spring break since 2019.

Jet fuel prices in the U.S. have surged 85% since the day before the war began in February, hitting a record $4.62 a gallon on Monday, according to Argus data published by Airlines for America.

While some airlines are partially protected from sudden price spikes through fuel hedging a strategy that locks in fuel prices months or even years in advance Henry Harteveldt, president of Atmosphere Research Group, said most U.S. carriers no longer use this practice. As a result, airlines are forced to pass some of those expenses on to passengers.

As airlines drop routes and raise airfares, TMJ4 headed to Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport to meet with avid travelers who shared a few tricks to help you enjoy a trip on a budget.

Linda Galica, a former travel agent and airport ramp agent, is traveling to New York with a tour group. To lock in a low price, she booked her ticket in October.

"We're especially going to see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the 9/11 museum, and the monument," Galica said.

Galica said she is definitely willing to trade convenience for cost.

"The days that you can actually travel make a big difference. Everybody travels on Mondays and Fridays, especially business people, so if you can do any other days that works best," Galica said.

Travel experts say a few tweaks, like comparing similar destinations or skipping a checked bag, can also make a trip more affordable.

Brandon Brown is a frequent flyer who travels between Atlanta and Milwaukee about five times a year.

"Checking a bag is what, $60 now? That's crazy. So yeah, pack light," Brown said.

Brown is also planning for an upcoming bachelor trip and said being open to a layover, using a 'Buddy Pass' via a friend or family member, and cashing in loyalty miles can help lower ticket prices.

"I'm getting miles with Delta and getting miles with Southwest because they're the only two people I fly with now," Brown said.

Driving isn't always an option, but if you are hitting the road for a spring break trip, you will be paying more. Currently, the national average for a gallon of regular gas is at $4.08, up from $2.99 a month ago. In Wisconsin, the average per gallon is $3.79.

Each week, a member of TMJ4's staff visits a local fish fry destination and reviews their experience. This week, Photojournalist Emmanuel Espino visited Final Approach, the restaurant notable for having a plane on its roof near Milwaukee's airport.

My wife and I had a Friday evening off together and decided to check out a fish fry dinner. Final Approach was the winner of our decision.

Final Approach has a drive-thru option if you don't want to dine in. We got our meal to go and went home to binge one of the shows we've been watching.
