BROOKFIELD -- A popular phone scam is resurfacing locally and it recently cost a Brookfield woman thousands of dollars.

On Sunday, the City of Brookfield Police Department took a report of a fraud in which an elderly woman bought $4,000.00 worth of Target gift cards at the instruction of a scammer claiming to be her nephew.

The victim told police the scammer told her that he was involved in a crash and needed bail money -- but she had to provide the bail money in gift cards.

The gift cards were later used. Surveillance video captured the suspects redeeming the gifts cards. Police are now looking to identify those suspects.
