33 people have been charged with crimes related to civil unrest, officials say

MILWAUKEE COUNTY — The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office said a total of 33 people have been charged with crimes related to the civil unrest over the past week.

Protesting over the death of George Floyd has taken place across the country since his death on May 25. In Milwaukee, protests were slated to continue into its eighth straight day and into the weekend.

Though the protests have remained largely peaceful, isolated incidents of looting and damage to businesses has occurred.

The Milwaukee County Attorney's Office said that 33 people have been charged with crimes related to the civil unrest, including felony offenses such as burglaries. Officials say there was also charges such as recklessly endangering safety due to very dangerous driving among groups of people.

More detailed information will be released next week, officials say.

On Thursday, Milwaukee police released video of incidents of looting and other crimes that have occurred during the civil unrest.
