MADISON — The Wisconsin Badgers' game against the Nebraska Cornhuskers has been canceled.

The teams were scheduled to play on Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska but the Badgers announced the game had been canceled on Wednesday.

The news comes after 12 people within the Wisconsin program tested positive for COVID-19. According to the university, that figure includes six student-athletes and six staff members, including head coach Paul Chryst. Additional test results are pending.

“We have said from the beginning that the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff members come first,” said Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez, “Over the past several days we have seen a rising number of student-athletes and staff contract the virus. The responsible thing for us to do is to pause football-related activities for at least seven days.”

UW-Madison does not plan to reschedule the game and will be pausing all team-related activities for at least seven days.

Wisconsin’s next scheduled game is at home against Purdue on Nov. 7.
