Undefeated Lake Country Lutheran knows a thing or two about winning. Like last week when they beat previously undefeated University School.

“They are a very big team,” described senior wide receiver and cornerback Adam Mielke. “They have some big boys and they like to hit hard, so it was nice to feel that hard hitting again and it was very good competition for us.”

“Our coach has always taught us that in those tough games that we need to come out with strength and endurance and be able to break the other team's will and be able to come out stronger than they are and show them that we are dominant,” explained senior wide receiver and defensive end Brady Kerwin. “By doing that we can pull away from the game like we did.”

With a 40-14 victory, they now sit all alone atop the Midwest Classic conference and are eyeing their seventh conference title in the last eight years.

“We just come with a winning mindset every game,” Mielke said. “We want to do the best we can. We're a very selfless team. We don't care about individuals.”

Except for last week when freshman Zander Mueller stole the spotlight with an 88 yard kickoff return.

“He got his first little taste of the end zone,” Mielke said with a smile. “It was really cool to see in a kick return fashion. It was really fun.”

“It speaks to the unity, freshman on to seniors,” said Lightning head coach Greg Brazgel. “Our seniors were really excited for that freshman to have that moment… Everyone was really excited for him. They celebrated that more than any other play.”

And like all teams, they're hoping for one more celebration to cap off their season.

“Yeah, I'm like every other coach in the state I want a state title,” Brazgel said with a laugh. “But I want to turn these young boys into great fathers, great people in their community and if they get to talk about how they won a state championship when they learned that then that's an okay thing, too.”

Congratulations, Lake Country Lutheran you're TODAY'S TMJ4's Football Frenzy Team of the Week.
