A report says that the career of a former Milwaukee Brewers slugger, most recently with the Texas Rangers, is ending.

The Rangers say they will hold a news conference Wednesday to say that Prince Fielder is ending his career after neck surgery, according to Ken Rosenthal of MLB Network and Fox Sports.

Fielder, as Rosenthal reporters, is disabled and doctors won't allow him to play.

According to MLB.com, the Rangers are not initially confirming or denying the report.

The most recent surgery reportedly involved herniation of the C4 and C5 discs in his neck.

Fielder played with Milwaukee, Detroit and Texas in his 12-year career.

His career includes a .283 career batting average (.282 in Milwaukee), 319 home runs (230 with the Brewers) and 1038 RBI (656 RBI in Milwaukee).

He earned six All-Star selections including a 2011 All Star MVP with the Brewers.
