Former Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Chris Carter might be headed to Japan in search of a new job, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported Tuesday.

Carter hit a league-leading 41 home runs for the Brewers last season, but his agent Dave Stewart said it might be time to look overseas.

“I think at some point we have to make it a serious consideration,” Stewart told FOX Sports. “It’s getting late [in Japan], too. Those teams are filling their spaces, too.”

Milwaukee signed Carter to a one-year, $2.5 million deal last offseason, but decided to non-tender the first baseman rather than pay him a projected $8 million in arbitration.

The Brewers themselves dipped into the Asian market for Carter’s replacement, signing free agent Eric Thames to a three-year, $16 million contract out of the Korean Baseball Organization. Thames last played in the majors in 2012 for Toronto and Seattle. He batted .232 with nine home runs that year.

Carter batted just .222 last season, and struck a league-high 206 times. But his solid batting eye and incredible power resulted in a .821 OPS, good for 11th among first baseman in 2016.
