Volunteers to build 500 gardens in 15 days

MILWAUKEE -- One of the largest garden building events in the country is happening right now in Milwaukee.

Kelly Moore Brands joined live on Daybreak Sunday to share how hundreds of volunteers joined Victory Garden Initiative to build 500 gardens.

The BLITZ Gardens involves volunteers building 500 4X8' raised-bed gardens filled with healthy, organic soil in locations throughout Milwaukee.

At least half of the gardens go to low-income recipients.

BLITZ mobilizes more than 300 volunteers, who will meet every day at Habitat for Humanity, 3726 N. Booth Street, to gather supplies and head out to neighborhoods to start building gardens. Registration is open to volunteer to help build gardens across Milwaukee! Individuals and groups welcome. To learn more, click here.
