Steven Avery's lawyers have filed new paperwork asking the court to reconsider a new trial for Avery based on evidence they believe connects two other people to Teresa Halbach's murder.

Avery is serving a life sentence for the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach. His nephew, Brendan Dassey, is also serving a life sentence for the crime. Their case was made famous in the Netflix documentary Making a Murderer.

A Sheboygan County Circuit Court Judge denied Avery's request for a new trial in early October.

According to paperwork filed Tuesday, Avery's lawyers claim they have new evidence that connects Bobby Dassey, Avery's nephew, and Scott Tadych, Dassy's stepfather, to the murder.

The paperwork also alleges there is a new witness who has evidence Halbach left the Avery Salvage Yard on October 31, and a witness who establishes Ms. Halbach's day planner was in her vehicle at the time of the murder and in the possession of Ryan Hillegas after her murder.

Finally, Avery's lawyers say the state knowingly used false testimony from Hillegas, who was Halbach's ex-boyfriend.

His lawyers allege Barb Tadych, Dassey's mother, and Scott Tadych knew Halbach left the Avery property before she disappeared.

In addition, the new court paperwork claims Brad Dassey, Barb's stepson, said Barb tried to remove "relevant and probative" evidence from the Dassey computer before police seized it on April 21, 2006.

"This new evidence establishes a reasonable probability that a different result would be reached at a new trial based upon the totality of the new evidence," Avery's lawyers wrote in the court documents.

The new evidence includes transcripts of phone calls between Barb Tadych, Scott Tadych and Steven Avery.

The motion can be read below. Note: the last three pages were redacted due to personal phone numbers included. However, Avery's lawyers posted the document here.
