The Zoo Interchange Zipper Merge is reopening ahead of schedule and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation says things will be better for drivers.

Bob Wolf is excited about the merge being gone by Tuesday morning.

"It just requires a lot of patience…definitely a bit of relief because it will reduce the congestion and make the commute time a little quicker," Wolf said.

The merge was put in place early this year as crews replaced underground pipes and tubes. Michael Pyritz with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation says the agency is excited it will be back open early for holiday drivers.

"People are going to see a much better ride," he said.

The move will cause changes for drivers traveling to Milwaukee from WIS 100. Instead of using the regular on-ramp, you now have to stay on WIS 100 until you get to Greenfield Ave. Then you will take the Greenfield Ave entrance ramp to I-41/894 N. This ramp will then take you to I-94 E.

And with these new road changes Pyritz says holiday travelers should pre-plan their trips before leaving home.

"Be patient, allow a little extra time and do your homework," Pyritz said.
