When it comes to cheese, and especially grilled cheese sandwiches, Wisconsinites know what they are talking about.

Recently, the Grilled Cheese Academy held its annual grilled cheese recipe showdown, and a group from Madison was tasked with picking the best of the best.

With more than 10 concoctions to taste, the “Mississippi Comeback”  was crowned the 2017 Grand Champion. Created by Lorrie Roach from Buckatunna, Mississippi, the sandwich features Fontina and Cedar Cheese, and 20 other ingredients.

The silver award winner was the “Seoul Food,” which included bacon, onions, coffee and three different kinds of cheese.

The Bronze award winner was the Mardi Gras, featuring Mascarpone and Mozzarella cheese, olives, and fresh oregano.

Contestants won prize money of up to $15,000 for their entries. Winning recipes from this year and past competitions area are posted on the Grilled Cheese Academy web site.
