Authorities have recovered an unmarked Milwaukee Police Department car that was stolen on Monday several states away from Wisconsin.

The car was taken from the 1600 block of N. 7th Street between 8:30 and 11:30 p.m.

Chief Ed Flynn said the stolen car was recovered in Mississippi County, Missouri Tuesday and a 52-year-old man was taken into custody following a pursuit.

“Apparently he got into a car chase with state troopers in Illinois that went into Missouri, banged into a couple of semi trucks,” Flynn said.

Flynn said the suspect, who is from Milwaukee, is wanted for several crimes.

Police say that other than a squad radio, there was no police equipment of significance in the vehicle.

Flynn told reporters Tuesday that the officer was heading into Sojourner House, had a lot of files in her hand and unknowingly dropped her keys.

The suspect saw the keys and took the cars.

Police have surveillance video of the theft.
