JANESVILLE -- City leaders in Janesville are mulling settling a lawsuit by a former teacher who was accused of showing up for work drunk.

The Janesville Gazette reports the City Council will consider a $75,000 settlement for Maria Caya at a meeting Monday.

Caya filed a $5.5 million lawsuit against the city last year claiming police improperly released her blood alcohol tests after she was accused of being drunk on a student field trip in June 2013. Her blood alcohol percentage was 0.27 percent during the incident. The legal limit for driving in Wisconsin is 0.08 percent.

The school district paid her $18,000 to resign in a separate agreement. District officials said firing her would have resulted in legal costs exceeding that payout.
