Robots reigned supreme Friday at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena for the 11th annual FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robotics competition. High school teams from across the country are right here in Wisconsin and are showing off their skills this weekend.
Sam Ruh was one of the students competing Friday.
“You’re just really proud that in six weeks you managed to put together a fully functioning robot,” said Ruh. “Our robot is designed to breach as many defenses as possible so it gets through all the different barriers, there's a rock wall you have to get over and rough terrain.”
Founded by inventor Dean Kamen and others in 1989, FIRST is a non-profit organization to inspire people's interest and participation in science and technology. The organization sponsors and supports several similar events.
The competition is open to the public and runs through Sunday.
