MILWAUKEE -- A frigid tradition helped kick off the new year along Milwaukee's lakefront.

A lot of people braved the cold for the annual Polar Plunge at Bradford Beach. The icy slap of reality froze some, who opted not to take the plunge.

Others fully embraced it, like one man dressed as a samurai, who conquered fear slashing the waves with his sword.

"It feels like about 1,000 knives stabbing you all over your body," Matthew Polak said.

"The fact that you're holding hands with your friends and everyone's going, so you have to go too. It makes it easier with good people there," added Homer Wolfe.
