MILWAUKEE -- A two-year-old Milwaukee boy accidentally shot itself with the father's gun, police say.
?
Milwaukee police tell TODAY'S TMJ4 the child's father had a handgun accessible to the child near N. 36th and Townsend.

Luckily in this case, the child survived and is being treated at Children's Hospital.

?
One City of Milwaukee leader is sharing how this is entirely preventable.

"We are working to receive more to make sure that we have plenty out there for the community to have them safely stored and secured," said David Muhammad, Office of Violence Prevention.

The program manager of the Office of Violence Prevention understands most people have a gun for their personal safety. He sees a huge need for gun locks in the city as well. City leaders hope to pass out more free gun locks this summer.

The father in this case was arrested and the case will be reviewed by the Milwaukee County D.A.’s office in the coming days.
