If you're seeing a movie at a Cinemark theater, leave your backpack or large purse at home. Starting Thursday, the movie theater chain is banning large bags.

A sign is now posted at the front entrance of the Cinemark theater near Highway 50 in Kenosha stating movie guests are no longer allowed to bring in bags larger than "12" x "12"  x "6" inches.

"If it provides a greater sense of safety or security to some people, it's a compromise I'm willing to make," said James Farley

Movie-goer Karen Nestoras isn't against the new rule,  but she says candy smugglers might be mad.

"Well you know why they have big bags. I know why because the foods too expensive in the theater," she said.

The new rule comes a week after the school shooting in Florida that left 17 people dead, and nearly six years after a gunman opened fire at a movie theater in Colorado, killing 12.

On its website, the movie theater company states there are exceptions to the new policy which include diaper bags and medical equipment bags.

TODAY'S TMJ4 reached out to Cinemark Theatres but have not heard back.
