Milwaukee Police are investigating a shooting that left no one hurt but closed down a portion of State Street.
The shooting happened around 9:30 a.m., according to an on-scene Lieutenant. Milwaukee Police said a couple of shots were fired but no one was hit. The lone shooter is now in custody and the weapon was recovered.
Vydale Thompson Moody, who attends nearby Milwaukee Area Technical College, said he was "disappointing" about the shooting.
"This is crazy," Thompson Moody said. "We need these people to stop this violence down here."
Kristy Dye said she was leaving the Milwaukee County Courthouse when shots rang out.
"I was coming downstairs after court and all of a sudden a lot of policemen were getting on the same elevator I was in," Dye said. "It's kind of scary. People are in and out of this area all day."
Police said the shooting's proximity to Milwaukee Police Headquarters and the courthouse meant officers and Milwaukee County Deputies responded right away. They stressed there's no threat to the community.
As of 11:15 a.m., State Street had re-opened but a portion of 9th Street, between State Street and Highland Avenue, remained closed.
Milwaukee Police continue to investigate the incident and say more information could be released later today.
