When a major disaster strikes like what we are seeing in Texas, a lot of us ask ourselves, “what would I do if something like that happened to me?”
Though difficult to watch, this could be a wake-up call for all of us to do to take action to prepare for the worst.
Some of the most important things to be thinking about are, “how would I get through the situation?” and “how you would I recover?”
To get through, it is a good idea to have a backpack ready to go that has a bottle of water and hearty snack, a change of clothes, medication, a cell phone and portable charger, and copies of important documents that might be needed.
To recover, you will need to have good insurance. Now is the time to talk with your insurance companies to be sure that you are covered as best possible if something goes wrong.
In some cases, a standard cell phone might not work. In recent years, there has been a lot of development with software, apps, antennas, and satellite phones that could be an alternative if cellular service is limited or unavailable. It might be a good idea to research some of these options now and consider how these might help.
